Energy

Irvington is a Clean Energy Community, a NYSERDA program to implement clean energy actions, save energy costs, create jobs, and improve the environment. The Village has so far completed 11 high impact actions including converting government fleet vehicles to electric, becoming a Climate Smart Community (Bronze), Community Choice Aggregation (choosing 100% renewable energy as the default for residents on an opt-out basis, changing street and office lights to LED (saving us much as $45,000 annually) and adopting the NY Energy Stretch code enforcement training for the building department.

As of January 2024, as much as $500,000 is available to Irvington for completed Clean Energy Community tasks. But funds are available to NY municipalities on a first come, first serve basis, so we want to organize quickly.

Clean Energy Communities funding includes support for community campaigns that encourage residents to:

1- purchase or lease electric vehicles or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles
2- install electric heat pumps or heat pump hot water heaters
3- enroll in community solar.
